Masasi District Commissioner, represented by the Divisional Officer of Masasi Town, Mr. Fikiri Lukanga, has officially introduced the Environmental Education Center project which costs over TZS 242 million, to the public.
Mr. Lukanga praised the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for ensuring that the environment for investors and donors is improved. He also thanked the German Government, Landratsamt Enzkreis, the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, the German Engagement Global Institution, the German Service Agency, and the TAREA Institution for facilitating the establishment of the center.
The Vice Chairman of Masasi Town Council, Hon. Hamisi Nikwanya, on behalf of the Chairman of the Council, stated that the involvement of various stakeholders such as primary and secondary school students, vocational training centers, special groups, women entrepreneurs, and the general public in environmental education will bring significant changes to the environment, starting from areas close to the center.
Speaking on behalf of the Director of Masasi Town Council, the Head of the Human Resources and Administration Division, Ms. Renalda Mbowe, mentioned that in addition to contributing two plots worth TZS 20 million for the construction of the center, the Town Council will continue to ensure the sustainability of the center and its benefits to the community.
Napupa Ward Councilor , Hon. Sospeter Nachunga, said that the construction of the center will bring a revolution in raising awareness and preventing environmental pollution and waste separation in the Masasi community.
Acting Head of the Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation Unit, Ms. Anna Hokororo, stated that the Environmental Center project, being implemented in Wapiwapi A Street in Napupa Ward, includes the construction of a training hall, an office for environmental and energy specialists, a cafeteria, a relaxation area, a kitchen, toilets, a fence, and a rainwater harvesting well.
She mentioned that to protect the environment, the project used steel for roofing, doors, and windows to reduce the use of timber resources and that the construction of the center cost a total of TZS 242,763,254 provided by the Enzkreis District Council of Germany.
The Center Manager, Ms. Catherine Tendeje, said that the center aims to provide environmental education and enhance the well-being of living organisms and natural vegetation by promoting awareness and establishing tree nurseries, renewable energy sources such as biogas and solar energy, and the development and use of improved stoves.
Cooperation Coordinator from Masasi Town Council, Mr. Kajuti Nyambi, mentioned that this cooperation began in 2011, and the Town and District have benefited in various fields including health, education, environment, renewable energy (solar electricity installation), and sports through various development aids.
